Why EMCI? Since 1st January 2002, Dutch government stroked the protection of the degrees of several occupations from the commercial code. They herewith actively dissociated themselves from the safe keeping and maintenance of quality standards of occupations like estate agent, surveyor and expert’s. Many found this undesirable. After all, a lack of clarity was the consequence. Commissioner, consumers, company’s and organization’s need quality and professionalism. Certifying safe guards this need. The Maritime professions sail a collective course and as per 5th May 2003 they established the European Maritime Certification Institute (EMCI). The EMCI is exclusively focusing on the Maritime branch and at present on certifying for individual professionals and companies. The EMCI draws its target to bind all Maritime professions and Maritime professionals by means of custom measured certifying. EMCI is a global player and therefore international active. Professionalism, Quality & EMCI ► Important, now and for the future! Independent EMCI is independent. The certification is open for every one who fulfill the requirements as it is stated in public and transparent certification schemes. The certification obviously is not connected to the membership of a branch or professional association. Organizational Structure EMCI is located in Gouda and is under auspices of a supervisory commission. This commission is under the chairmanship of Mr.Ing A.H. Vermeer. Every professional group contains its own certification scheme. Each scheme is connected to own guarantee committee. The purpose of the guarantee committee is to be a panel of experts. Besides the guarantee committee, other commissions can be installed, like for example the board of examination, the board of training or the committee of grievance. All certificating schemes distinguish themselves by appointing a code of conduct, the right of complaint, educational requirements, experience requirements and previous career requirements.
